Asthma incidence, vaping, and sleep disorders are on the rise as the shortage of pulmonologists grows more acute. In this fragmented and overlooked specialty, we see an opportunity to build a category defining healthcare technology business.

Fresh Air in Pulmonology

Nimbus Health employs novel clinical models, automations, and virtual therapeutic programs to transform outpatient clinics into pulmonary centers of excellence. Pulmonologists, like most independent physicians, struggle to balance heavy patient caseloads with administrative responsibilities, including payor disputes, staff turnover, and IT problems. As a result, patients in most pulmonary clinics are inadequately vaccinated and screened for lung cancer, and lack access to state of the art care including pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking reduction programs, inhaler technique coaching, and more. 

Nimbus applies years of operations expertise, customized technology, and clinical innovation to bring pulmonary clinics up to society guidelines and beyond. We’re especially excited about the Nimbus at Home patient monitoring program, which harnesses nocturnal vitals and sleep data for thousands of patients to identify exacerbations, predict hospitalization events, and avert costly acute care stays. Nimbus has swiftly built the most interesting data asset in the specialty, and has a forthcoming publication in Chest, the top journal in the field.

Nimbus Health is led by an exceptional operating team that blew us away at every interaction.

Clay Spence (Founder and CEO) embodies systems-thinking and a relentless drive to challenge outdated paradigms in healthcare. Clay previously founded and built the Cicero Institute, where he passed healthcare policy reforms across a dozen states in the country. 

Sharvil Patel (Co-Founder and Head of Product) is one of the most creative minds we have ever seen in healthcare, drawing on a wealth of hands-on experience in primary care clinics, and a comprehensive understanding of healthcare law, the healthcare technology landscape, and pulmonary medicine itself. Currently in medical school, Sharvil blends medical insight with engineering ability to automate care workflows and enable new, clinically meaningful service lines.

Together, they clicked and saw an unnoticed opportunity to change the model in pulmonology care, at scale. The team’s ability to translate ideas into operational reality amazes us and we are lucky to be on the journey with them.
