At 2048 Ventures, we’ve had a longstanding thesis on video. In fact, I personally wrote about it 14 years ago in this post, where I said, “anything that can be a video will be a video.”

In fact, since then, we’ve seen video content account for 82% of internet traffic. From Twitch, to TikTok, to Youtube, to Reels — we’re creating and consuming video at an exponential rate.

There is now a generation of creators and influencers that use video as their lingua franca. One common problem for these creatives is post-production — today, a majority of them rely on traditional software that wasn’t built for modern day platforms and workflows. Standard tools fill their product with myriad features, but neglect what creatives actually need: software that recognizes and optimizes their workflows.

Picture this: you’ve just finished streaming for hours on Twitch and want to share highlights on TikTok — do you really need the same general purpose software used by a Hollywood studio? Shouldn’t you have software that is purpose-built for your workflow and simply automates what you need?

Enter Combo.

Combo is the brainchild of Tucker Schreiber & Evan Cloutier. After several years at Shopify, Tucker met Evan while at Wealthsimple, where Tucker was a product manager and Evan was a software engineer. Outside of work, both were active in the gaming community, and had a lightbulb moment when they realized there should be an easy way to edit & share their Twitch highlights across platforms.

Since then, they built an early product for thousands of creators who love their platform and can’t live without it. Combo’s uniqueness is that it focuses on workflows and automation, and leverages AI to enhance the editing and distribution process, allowing creators to focus on what they do best: creating.

But this is just the beginning of their journey: in the future, Combo aims to be the underlying infrastructure empowering creators, creative teams, and businesses to run core functions of their post-production workflows with ease.

We are so thrilled to be backing Combo, and are excited to publicly announce the company’s first institutional investment (led by us and awesome angels from Shopify, Spotify, Wealthsimple, and our friends at Hustle Fund), and their pre-seed (led by our friends at Blank Ventures).
